digital texts

These are written, digitally encoded contents designed to be consumed on screens (computers, phones, or tablets). They break with the rigidity of paper by incorporating interactive elements, links, and audiovisual resources.

Main characteristics

Hypertextuality: Allows linking text fragments through hyperlinks, creating a non-linear reading experience connected to other sources.

Multimedia: Integrates text with images, videos, audio, and interactive elements to enrich the experience.

Connectivity and reach: Can be shared globally in seconds and constantly updated.

They allow copying and forwarding. Most digital texts allow the user to select, copy, and save fragments of their content for later use in other contexts (i.e., copy and paste). Similarly, the entire text can usually be shared with other users through various messaging or telecommunications methods.

Most common formats

* Blogs and web articles: Texts optimized for search engines with a scannable structure.

* Social media: Short, direct messages accompanied by hashtags or visual content.

* E-books: Complete works adapted for digital readers (eReaders).

* Emails and forums: Asynchronous and direct communication channels.

The digital age has transformed countless aspects of our daily lives, and reading habits are no exception. With the advent of digital reading, we face a landscape where printed books and e-books coexist, offering us new ways to engage with reading.

This shift toward digital reading has not only changed how we read but also how it affects our ability to process and understand information. Digital media in reading has opened doors to new types of texts, from legal documents to complex novels, all just a click away.
